County Moving Into Orange Zone ~ New Cases Confirmed at Wise Owl and Cathedral School, Pembroke

Two new cases of COVID-19 in Pembroke were confirmed today (Wednesday) by the Renfrew County District Health Unit while acting medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Cushman, announced the county and area will be moving to the Orange level immediately.

Dr. Cushman told Renfrew County council about the move to Orange at the monthly county council meeting today. He said three different variants of concern have been identified in the region.

An individual at Wise Owl Day Care Centre in Pembroke has a positive laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 and all children and staff who have been deemed to be a close contact of the positive case have been given direction to go home immediately to self-isolate and arrange for testing. The day care remains open for other clients and staff.

The health unit and Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) also confirmed a student at Cathedral Catholic Elementary School in Pembroke has also tested positive. All students and staff who have been deemed to be a close contact of the positive case have been given direction to go home immediately to self-isolate and arrange for testing. The school remains open for in-person learning. RCDHU is working closely with the RCCDSB to ensure necessary measures continue to be in place to protect all staff, children and the public.
