A student at Fellowes High School in Pembroke has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of individuals at the school testing positive for the virus to five.
Late Thursday evening, Renfrew County and District Health Unit (RCDHU) received notification of a positive COVID-19 test for a student. This individual is part of the initial small cohort of students identified at risk and now brings the total number of cases at Fellowes High School to 5; one student and four staff members. RCDHU has also received negative test results for all but one other staff member and one other student in the original class that was exposed to the staff cases. RCDHU is running a second pop up testing clinic this morning (Friday) at 7 International Drive for the remaining staff and students from the high school. The health unit tested 98 individuals, 83 staff and 15 students on Thursday. Almost all the staff from the school were tested along with students who were considered to be at highest risk. RCDHU will continue to update the school community and the public daily.
The school was ordered closed Wednesday afternoon due to the outbreak. It is the first school in the province to be closed due to the virus.
