A heavy police presence continues at the Pine Tree Motel on the western outskirts of Eganville in North Algona Wilberforce Township following an alleged stabbing Wednesday night which claimed the life of a man.
Two males were arrested at the scene in connection with the death. Their identities and that of the deceased person are not being released at this time although the names are known locally.
The investigation is in its early stages and police do not believe there is a risk to public safety.
The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.
Shortly after the global COVID-19 outbreak in March 2020, the motel transitioned into a full-time residence for many people who suddenly found themselves without accommodations because of the surging home sales, influx of new people into the county and the shortage of housing.
The motel changed ownership on June 30.
