Renfrew – The 169th edition of the Renfrew Fair wrapped up this past Sunday and although it was chilly with temperatures hovering below 10 degrees, it did not rain as it had done off and on for the first three days of the four-day event.

One of the benefits of the rain was both the Friday and Saturday night indoor concerts at the Armouries ended up being standing room only crowds as hundreds of people enjoyed the music provided by headliners The Trews and Saturday Night Special.

The midway amusement rides continued on throughout the weekend and were not cancelled which is sometimes typical at outdoor fairs and those in attendance enjoyed the wide variety of rides. One of the more popular events, the Heavy Hitch Horse competition had to be cancelled due to poor track conditions.

However, event coordinator Bonnie Nolan said all the teams that registered for the event will still be credited points towards the overall year totals for qualification for other national and international events.

Fair board staff were unable to provide final statistics in terms of attendance at the time the Leader went to press.
