Passed away suddenly at the Ottawa Heart Institute on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at the age of 75 years.

Bernadine came to the Valley in the early 70s as part of the “back-to-the-land” movement with her partner, Jim Klinck. Seeking a better place to raise their girls, they learned to produce their own food and set about home-schooling all the kids – you know who you are.

A consummate geek, she started her first computer business, Roslyn Data Systems, in 1986 and watched it evolve over the next four decades. First, Roslyn & Huestis Computer Centre; then, Village Computer Centre, Bayberry Lane Designs, AlgonquinEast.com and finally Valley Web Studio. Most of the time, she enjoyed working with her daughter, Kelly, from 1993 – 2016.

Passionate about volunteering and pioneering change, Bernadine spearheaded numerous causes, organizations, and groups; Community Resource Centre (CRC) in Killaloe and Toy Bus, The Killaloe Craft and Community Fair, Railway Station Park in Barry’s Bay and innumerable Business Development committees. Bernadine’s current passion was Green Burial Ottawa Valley.

Beloved mother of Kelly Klinck (Christian Shepherd) and Heidi Klinck (Nate Shoemaker); stepmother to Mike, Rodney and Jim Turner. Grandmother of Matthew, Dalton, Logan, Ashley, and Austin. Sister of Leighton Roslyn (Paulette), Kevin Roslyn, Lynn Henry and Shawn Roslyn (Shelley). Predeceased by her parents, Stanley (1973) and Lucy Roslyn (nee Stupak) (2004) and brother Peyton (1968). She was fondly known as “Aunt Bern” to Ryan, Peter, Holly, Cory, Morgan, Nicholas, Jake and Natasha as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

A private interment, honouring green burial practices, will take place on Thursday, November 14 at Locksley United Cemetery, B-Line Road with help from Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke. Donations in lieu of flowers can be directed to Green Burial Ottawa Valley.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 18 from 11 am to 2 pm at The Stone Church – 1887 Mountain View Road, Killaloe. There will be opportunities to share stories or a song, and photos for the memorial or her family are appreciated and can be sent to berns2kids(at)gmail.com.
