Deane Edward Detlefsen


Passed away peacefully, on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Pembroke Regional Hospital at the age of 86 years.

Rev. Deane Detlefsen of Pembroke, born in Manchester, Iowa, June 2, 1935. Beloved husband of 59 years to Shirley Detlefsen (nee Erickson), and father of 5 daughters; Lois, Ruth (Gary Neil), Doris, Gail and Rena (Pierre Couture). Grandfather of Michelle, Christopher, Kelsey, Joshua, Charlotte, Jonathan, Nicolas, Alexander, and great-grandfather to Levi. Survived by brother Paul (Barb) of Minnesota and 10 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Frank & Ruth Detlefsen (nee Main) and brothers, LeRoy (Delores) and Kenneth (Laverne).

An ordained Lutheran Church Canada pastor, Deane was a 1960 seminary graduate of Concordia, Springfield, Illinois and served multiple parishes including: Bruno-Humboldt, SK; Luseland-Kerrobert, SK and Oyen, AB; Moosomin-Broadview, SK; and Pembroke (Locksley) ON, in addition to numerous vacancies and other positions in several provinces across Canada.
His love to serve God included key leadership roles in Canadian Lutheran Braille work, First Step Option Centre, (a pregnancy support service), Lutherans for Life, Camp Alle-Lu, Grace Evangelical Lutheran School, Alcoholism support work and Pembroke Jail Ministry.

Deane enjoyed spending time with his family, coached and played various team sports throughout his life, was a school bus driver, an animal lover, avid gardener, a rockhound, enjoyed hunting and fishing, he loved music and sang with the Pembroke Community choir and his church choir for many years.

Visitation was held Monday, April 4, 2022 from 5:00 til 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service was held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 516 Airport Rd., on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home, Pembroke.
