Gerard Bennidict Burchat, loved and cherished by many as Gerry, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023 in the month of the Holy Rosary surrounded by family. He was born January 11, 1959 in Renfrew, Ontario and lived 64 years. He served his country with honour and courage in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1977-1980. He earned an Honours Bachelor in Accounting with a concentration in Economics at the University of Waterloo (1989).

Gerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was passionate about his faith, his family, and his farm. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, riding his “black bullet” bike, reading, and talking with his friends. He was always ready to lend a hand, share a joke, or offer a word of encouragement.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marina, and their children, Reverend Anthony Burchat, John (Miriam), Joseph (Colleen), Catherine (John Sawchuk), Gabriel (Kristen), James (Stephanie), William (Emily), Anne, Nathaniel, and Jeremy. He also leaves behind a legacy for his grandchildren, Lucille, Sybil, Adeline, Peter, Edison, Zelie, Georgia, and Caroline.

He is also survived by his parents, Benidict and Helen Burchat, as well as his siblings, Edna (Kevin Yutronkie), Elizabeth (Brian Pecoskie), and Reverend John Burchat. He was preceded in death by one child, Isaac Michael David.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for all the prayers and support Gerry has received in the last year, including all the professional and passionate care from the St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Pembroke Regional Hospital.

Visitation was held at Zohr Family Funeral Home, Killaloe with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church, Round Lake Centre on October 30, 2023 and was followed by interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers Gerry requested that at least 100 Catholic Masses be said for the repose of his soul. The family invite you to join them in remembering and honouring Gerry’s life and offering prayers for his eternal rest.
