Gilbert Carl Schauer of Eganville, Ontario, a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the age of 92 years.
Gilbert was born on June 3, 1928 in Silver Lake, Ontario. He married Gwendolyne Weckwerth of Grattan Township and raised five children together.
As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support his family. He held many jobs until he started his own bus business in Eganville which he operated with his wife for 37 years before retiring. He enjoyed the many children he drove to school each day and took great pride in looking after his buses and making sure they were well maintained.
He retired from driving buses to take care of his Belgian horses up until the last few years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Mary (nee Marquardt) Schauer of Silver Lake and his beloved wife, Gwendolyne.
Gilbert is survived by his five loving children: Joanne (Bill) Kolisnyk of Eganville; Darwin (Sherry) of Lake Clear; Kevin (Mary Lynn) of Lake Clear; Carolyn (late Tony) Zomers of Lake Dore and Paul of Eganville.
He was a good father and loving grandfather and great-grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Gilbert was a strong, proud and a good person. Gilbert loved his family – his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His happiest moments were being at home and surrounded by family. He is loved and will be missed by many!
