February 20, 1930 – December 3, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandma, Helen, who passed away peacefully on the evening of December 3, 2023 with family by her side at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital in her 94th year.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Ed Harrie (January 1997). Dear mother of Wayne (Dale), Dawson (Eileen) and Kevin (Connie). She was loved dearly and will be missed greatly by her grandchildren, Darren, Jennifer, Melissa, Chris, Patricia, Michael and their spouses, as well as two step-grandchildren, Rochelle and Angel-lee. She was overjoyed with her fifteen great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren, who will cherish their memories of her. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Ron Zadow and step-brother, Ellard Hass (Ruth).
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Augusta (Handke) Schruder, her sisters, Doris (Elmer) Kant, Lois, and her brother, Garnet (Miranda) Schruder.
Helen was 16 years old when her mom died at the age of 46 years leaving the work of her mother to her responsibility. There was so much work to be done on the family farm as well as other household chores. Helen was now responsible for her little sister, Lois who was six years old at the time.
Helen loved and was loved by her many nieces and nephews, many of whom shared her love of music. She could be found in the circle at many family functions with her violin or mandolin in her hands. We are grateful for those memories.
Our sincere thanks to Pastor James Wall for his kind words about Helen and his words of encouragement to family members at the funeral service. We are truly grateful to family and friends who took time to visit her in hospital. Thank you, Cheryl, for your touching eulogy. Thank you to the pall-bearers, music ministry and for the lovely luncheon prepared.
Sincere thanks to those at Fairfields who invited her to play cards to help pass those long evenings which could be lonely at times especially after she lost her sister, Lois whom she spent many hours chatting and visiting with over the years.
We will always be grateful for your love and support of “mother” and her family, especially at this difficult time.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital for your care over our mother while she was with you.
Helen’s final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Eganville, where friends and family gathered on the evening of Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 7 to 9 pm. A brief visitation was held on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 am before a Funeral Service at Salem Evangelical Missionary Church at 11 am. Spring interment, Salem Evangelical Missionary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Eganville and District Community Food Bank or Salem Evangelical Missionary Church in memory of Helen.
