Joan Marie Potvin (Ryan) passed away peacefully at Stoneridge Manor, Carleton Place, Ontario on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the age of 80.

Joan Marie was predeceased by her husband, Leo Potvin, on August 7, 2008, and her siblings, Gerald, James and Madeline. She is survived by her loving son, Bernard, and her sister, Eleanor Ryan. She was the loving daughter of the late Margaret and Tommy Ryan, and sister-in-law of Elaine Potvin, Joan (Steve) Carlo, Susan Tanner and Heather Kiviste. She is also predeceased by her brothers-in-law, James Potvin, Patrick Potvin and Ab Smeader, and her sister-in-law, Mary Smeader. Joan Marie is fondly remembered by many nephews, nieces, business associates, former employees, members of the community, friends and acquaintances from far and wide.

Joan Marie became well-known as the proprietor of the retail store, The Mayflower, and later operated Jack’s Guest House. She worked behind the scenes on many charitable causes and was a proud promoter of Barry’s Bay in her travels.

Funeral mass was held on Monday, November 20 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Roman Catholic Church in Barry’s Bay, followed by burial at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church cemetery at Latchford Bridge.

A heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Stoneridge Manor, The Westwood and Lord Lansdowne for the tender and compassionate attention they gave Joan Marie. Appreciation to the staff of Heubner Funeral Home for their guidance and professional services.

Kudos to Father John Burchat, Father Richard Starks, Jennifer Bell, Maxine Dombroskie, Paul Goulet, Julie Howard, Donna Logan, Terry Recoskie, David Ryan, Tom and Dianne Ryan, choir recitalist Timothy Baklinski and the St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Women’s League for their efforts at the funeral mass and burial site. Recognition also to Beth and Wendell Henry and the staff of the Wilno Tavern for a delicious luncheon and Madonna House for all their faithful efforts and generosity.

Acknowledgment also to the special relatives, neighbours, friends and community-at-large who showed their support to Joan Marie in so many thoughtful ways throughout her life.

Mom, may you rest in peace.
