John Albert Kiviste

301

May 12, 1957 – January 16, 2024

John was a kind, hard working, talented and loving man. He was raised in a unique home on Bruce Street in Eganville, Ontario, built by his parents, Agatha Kiviste (nee Kasdorff) and Arvo Kiviste. He was an active youth and was known to his friends and teachers as an athlete. He sang in the choir at Grace Lutheran Church. He learned woodworking and building skills alongside his father, which he used throughout his life. He graduated with an Engineering Degree from the University of New Brunswick and was a professional engineer. He worked for Union Gas for over 30 years, where he had many work-related accomplishments. John loved his time at the family cottage on Golden Lake and enjoyed his visits there with siblings, cousins and old friends. He loved to fish and play golf, and he travelled extensively. He gardened, growing tomatoes and saving seeds from year to year. He also renovated four houses, problem solving with precise craftsmanship and creativity. He could work magic with wood.

John was married to Mary Louise for over 33 years. He was an actively involved dad to Julia and Teah. He had a soft spot in his heart for his mother-in-law, Nona Olga. He loved them all dearly and spoke about them with great affection and pride. He was extremely close to his three sisters, Karin, Mary and Lyna. Other people who will miss John are his nieces, Sarah, Jessie, Livia and Suzanna, his nephew, Lucas, his brothers-in-law, Eric, Neil and Jerry, his stepmother, Heather, and his married-into Italian family, Joe and Ursula, Cathy and Brad, Laura and Michael, as well as friends and neighbours. He spoke often of the incredible Italian food that he was able to enjoy. He was always friendly and happy to start a conversation with everyone and anyone. He walked with a spring in his step. At present John still holds the record for long jump at Opeongo High School.

Cremation has taken place. The Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
