“Someone who genuinely found joy in the happiness of others – someone soft at the edges and strong at the center.”

Kendra was many things to many people. She was a beautiful and gentle spirit with a giving and generous nature, a loving and dedicated mother who encouraged her two sons to learn to be themselves.

She genuinely loved people and could turn a stranger into a friend within minutes. People trusted her. She made them feel at ease and was always interested in what they had to say. As a result, she built many close relationships, and was the best friend anyone could ask for.

Kendra was also a very intentional builder of community and community spirit, witnessed by the many organizations where she volunteered. From teaching fitness to Seniors and working at the Food Co-Op, to Anti-Nuclear protests and protecting the environment, Kendra always acted with the intent of making the world a better place for everyone. The work she chose centered around themes of awareness, first helping people overcome alcohol and tobacco addiction as a Manager at the Smokers Treatment Center in Ottawa followed by Project Co-ordinator for the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, then later encouraging participation in the Arts as Executive Director of The Valley Arts Council in Pembroke.

Motivated by a keen sense of curiosity and adventure, Kendra was always open to trying new things. She was a magnet to those who loved adventure; those up for the unexpected. Her passions included swimming, hiking, dancing, yoga, canoeing, camping and gardening. The list goes on and on, and her desire to learn was insatiable. Words of wisdom filled her notebooks and graced the corners of her home. Quick to laugh or offer a helping hand, she lived life to the fullest.

During these last few months Kendra was extremely grateful for all the friends and family who helped her on her journey. On March 24, with loved ones at her side, Kendra left her physical pain behind and found peace. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for some time in the future.
