Marjorie Viola Roberts (nee Youse), born on June 4, 1928 in Tillsonburg, peacefully passed away on January 4, 2024 at Forest Hill Retirement Home in Kanata, Ontario. She was 95 years old. In her last days she was in the company of her son Mark and his wife Fanny and enjoyed visits from close friends and family.

Marjorie Roberts was an exceptional woman whose life embodied the essence of tenacity, dedication and resilience. As a devoted mother, her unyielding commitment to her family mirrored her relentless work ethic. Juggling the demands of a career while raising her children, she personified grace, fortitude and unwavering strength. Her tenacious resolve and unflagging efforts inspired all who crossed her path, imprinting an enduring legacy of hard work and determination on her family and the community. Her unwavering dedication as a mother will forever endure in the hearts of her children and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Marjorie had a long work history starting from the early age of 14. Her career culminated as the Department Head Secretary for Earth Sciences. She retired in 1988.

Marjorie enjoyed a long and fruitful retirement, making many new friends and enjoying many new experiences while living out on Opeongo Line near Eganville, Ontario. She was most often in the company of Joe Sullivan, an Opeongo neighbour who became a great friend and constant companion.

A deeply devout Missouri Synod Lutheran, Marj kept a prayer book close, and found great solace from its passages. Most recently she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Eganville, Ontario.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Mark Roberts (and wife Fanny Liaw); her son-in-law, Gary Moniz; her grandchildren, Michelle Moniz, Rachel Moniz, Anthony Roberts, Jesse Moniz and Lucas Roberts; her sister, Shirley Gilbert (Wayne “Spike” Gilbert); as well as her long-time companion, Joe Sullivan, all of whom will forever cherish her memory and the profound impact she had on their lives.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Douglas “Doug” Roberts; her parents, Tom and Edith Youse; her brothers, Fred, Ernest “Skip” and John “Jack” Youse; her sister, Myrna Shreve; and her daughter, Sherry Denise Moniz. Her reunion with family brings solace and peace to our hearts, knowing they are together once more. Their legacy of love and cherished memories will forever intertwine, guiding and comforting us in our days ahead.

A short visitation for Marjorie Roberts will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1 pm at Ostrander’s Funeral Home in Tillsonburg. The funeral service to honour her life will take place immediately following the visitation at 2 pm in Ostrander’s Funeral Home. A separate event is being planned for friends of Marjorie Roberts in Eganville, Ontario. Date, time and place to be determined.

Mark and Fanny would especially like to thank the incredible staff of nurses and PSWs at Fairfield’s in Eganville, Greystone Village Transitional Care Unit in Ottawa and Forest Hill Retirement Home in Kanata for the excellent care extended to Mom these last few months. A special mention to PSWs Gulilat and Vicky at Forest Hill who helped make Mom comfortable in her last days.
