With great sadness we announce the death of Simon William Adaway of Lake Clear in his 63rd year on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada. Simon was the dearly loved husband of Sara Shannon-Adaway (nee Woollam). He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Josephine Adaway (nee Henderson) and his brothers, John and Robert Adaway. He is survived by his aunt, Norma Henderson and cousins, Catriona and Alyson Henderson, all of Scotland.
Simon was a kind brother-in-law to Barbara Fortier, Tom Woollam (Joan), Kathleen Whelan and Paul Woollam. He was predeceased by Sara’s parents, Ted and Rita Woollam, and Sara’s daughter, Sabrina Shannon.
Simon was closely connected to friends, Natalie Sachar, Paul and Mary McClelland and their children, Callum and Ronan, and Australian friends, Arthur and Debbie Brook and their children, Natasha and Alex. The four children affectionately called him Uncle Simon.
Simon was born in Thurso, Scotland, educated at Liverpool University and he had a successful professional career working in the nuclear industry in England, Scotland and Chalk River, Canada. He enjoyed mountain climbing, downhill skiing, and travelling in Canada, the U.S.A. and Australia. Simon extensively researched electric vehicles and was one of the earliest owners of a Tesla. Simon and Sara welcomed friends and family to their beautiful log home overlooking Lake Clear and enjoyed travelling together in Canada, the U.S.A., the Caribbean, England and Scotland.
We will honour the life of Simon Adaway at the Murphy Funeral Home in Pembroke, Ontario. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held there on Friday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern Time) with live streaming available.
Ashes will be interred in St. Columba Cemetery, Pembroke and in Thurso, Scotland.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Simon can be made to the St Vincent de Paul Society (Pembroke) or the Renfrew, Pembroke or Ottawa Hospital Foundations.
