Sister Mary CATHERINE (Kitty) McCann (Sister Mary Stephen), a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON died in Pembroke on April 13, 2019 in the 75th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, sisters-in-law, Connie and Edna, as well as many devoted nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her parents, John Stephen and Mary Anna (Goulet); her brothers, Jack, Harry, Frank, Andy, Larry, Tom and Bill; her sisters, Beatrice, Anna and Clare. Catherine was born on March 3, 1925 in Eganville, ON. She entered the Community on September 28, 1944, pronouncing final vows on July 28, 1949. Following normal school, she served in various areas, including Timmins, Ottawa, Midland at Sacred Heart School, and as Principal at St. Teresa’s High School; Principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, and St. George’s, Ottawa. Due to summer experiences with First Nations people, she was employed by the Diocese of Ottawa as Coordinator of Manitou Centre. In 1976, a change in ministry led her to Oshawa as Pastoral Assistant of St. Mary of the People Parish, followed by ten years as Pastoral Coordinator at Holy Trinity Parish in Englehart and Director of Adult Faith Development, moving on later to New Liskard as Pastoral Associate. In retirement, Sister Catherine volunteered at Grimes Lodge, Ottawa, facilitated prayer groups, and offered counselling service. In 2012 she moved to Caritas, Grey Sisters’ Residence, Pembroke. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke, Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by a brief sharing of memories. Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel. Interment in St. Columba Cemetery.
